Can you really implement and manage your own Point of sale system instead of paying a POS company megabuks to do it for you?

Quite possibly. At the very least, provided that you are computer literate, understand your business and have access to computer system technical support, then at the very least, you should be able to save a great deal of money by doing much of the work in house.

The good news is that you don't have to spend anything to find out. With other systems you have to commit to a significant amount of money up front, and then hope that it works out.

With SELLmatix, before you commit, you can prototype and test so that before you make a final decision you know what the outcome will be.

Even if you ultimately decide to go with another system, you owe it to yourself to try SELLmatix. You have little or no risk, and at the very worst, you will learn a great deal in the process which will help when making a final decision.

Here are the steps to follow.

  1. Read through the hardware requirements and check the prices of the various components from different sources to see how much you can really save. This will inspire you to make a serious effort at implementing the system yourself, because the savings are significant.
  2. Set up a prototype system using one POS terminal.

    • Use an existing computer for the POS terminal and the Controller. As long as you have one or more PC's that will run Windows 2000 or later, there is no need to spend money on any new systems. Later if those PC's will be used for POS full time, then you can buy more machines, but not now.
    • Install the SELLmatix Software Demos and start working with the various configurations to work out if you can get the software to work in a manner that is suitable for your business. At this point, you have not spent a single cent, and you will get a pretty good idea of things are headed in the right direction or not.
    • Test POS devices such as barcode scanners, receipt printers, cash drawers etc. If you are still in doubt and are considering another POS system, buy test devices that will work on either type of system. That way, you can use the device no matter what your final decision.
  3. Set up the prototype system with your own live data, including products, customers etc, and configure the display screens to find the most usable configuration for you. If you have difficulty importing your existing data, we can provide this service for a small fee.
  4. Buy any additional equipment that you need.
  5. Install the equipment. If you are not confident about doing this yourselves, have it installed for you by local technicians. Everything is standard PC equipment and you will have many options for installation services.
All the technical information you need is available on this website. If you have questions or need help, use the forum to get answers.
